Carla Waterfield, Founder and Teacher
In 2009 Carla founded Carla's Musikgarten New Orleans. Ms. Carla has her Bachelor of Music from Chapman University, California; Orff Schulwerk Certification from University of Nevada, Musikgarten Certification for infants through advanced keyboard, Early Childhood Music and Movement Association Certification, and private training with internationally acclaimed early childhood music specialist Lynn Kleiner. She has directed the Children's Choir at St. George's Episcopal Church and Co-Directed the women's singing group, "The Siren Sisters". She began teaching music to young children and their families in 1997 and has presented parent and educator workshops, weekly classes and school programs in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Italy and Louisiana.
MaryAnne Purcell, Teacher
MaryAnne Purcell has her Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance from State University of New York. She began teaching early childhood music and movement classes in 2015. MaryAnne is an accomplished singer, guitar player and songwriter. She has performed at numerous festivals and in several films and t.v. shows. She has published an album with Atlantic Records called Ghost in You and has had several of her songs published.
Stephanie Condon Perry, Teacher
Stephanie Condon Perry is an accomplished flute player, modern dancer and teacher. Stephanie began studying flute and dance at an early age continuing on through classes at the University of Alabama. She furthered her dance education by achieving a teaching/dance certificate from the Isadora Duncan International Institute and has performed with the Isadora Duncan International Institute Dancers. She is also the co-director of the New Orleans dance company, Lyric Dance Ensemble. Stephanie began teaching Musikgarten classes in 2015 and has been teaching children movement for over 18 years. She has taught after school programs at multiple New Orleans private schools and dance at the Off Broadway Dance Studio for ten years.
Ben Schenck, Ensemble consultant & substitute teacher
Ben Schenck is an accomplished music director and clarinetist and currently directs and plays for the Panorama Jazz Band and Panorama Brass Band. He began his musical studies in elementary school in an Orff ensemble followed by high school choir, modern dance studies, music composition and eventually earning a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of New Orleans. He has taught music throughout the New Orleans community and is also the father of two children, both of which began as toddlers and now have completed the Musikgarten curriculum including the keyboard program with Carla Waterfield.
Musikgarten is a leader in early childhood and elementary music education - for children and teachers. We offer a complete multi-year educational program that helps infants, toddlers, and children develop a deep love of music and the ability to express it. We have wonderful CDs of the songs sung in class, age-appropriate instruments, and parent guidebooks. These home materials reinforce lessons and involve the whole family in the fun.
